We really thank you for your help!  A new project launched, December 9th and we needed
about 5 more "convenient" commercial drop off points. Thank you to all businesses who didn't mind being
involved!!!

The main drop off points were 3 YMCAs and 2 Boys & Girls Clubs (their teen programs)...Our main supporters were V103, DJ Toomp, and Home Depot.

The general info below:

From December 9th -December 19th Metro Atlanta teens collected Coats, Clothes, & Covers to
benefit less fortunate but very deserving homeless teens. Covenant House of Georgia and other smaller
teen-focused organizations were the main recipients of the collected items.

We partnered with the Villages at Carver Family YMCA to host a "Teen Celebration of Service"
on Saturday, December 19th.  We sorted and prepared the collected items for distribution
followed by music and food for our teen volunteers!!  This project provided up to 6 hours of
community service for the teens participating in the project!!

Covenant House GA was the main recipient of the collected items.  They are the only organization of its kind in Georgia and serve homeless kids every night between midnight and 8:00 AM According to CHGA, “Nearly 1 million homeless youth live on the street on any given day in America.”

“I think it is important for teens to have a more personal understanding of the extreme difficulties many of their peers face.  This is a project I believe will resonate with teens and one that will help prevent them from living life on the streets or perhaps do more to help teens who are currently homeless”, says Kimberly Wilson, Executive Director of FOR ME Inc., a local teen business education program and project manager for this campaign.

All teens that participated are thoroughly thanked! They were registered as a “Teen Leader” and to do their part, they had to lead their peers in making a difference by collecting the requested items and delivering them to one of the many drop off locations or were asked to bring the items to the Villages at Carver Family YMCA on December 19th. A maximum of 8 hours of community service was earned within this project!!

TEENS THANK YOU AGAIN FOR REGISTERING!

Dr. Nina Simone was one of the more unique and original performers of the 20th Century. What is little known is how important she was to the Civil Rights Movement in the United States. Often referring to her voice as a weapon, she crafted songs that became subversive narratives at key moments during the Movement. It is very important to highlight the socio-political significance of her life along with the pure joy and creativity of her music....thanks to The Nina Simone Foundation (NSF) we can all lean more about Dr. Nina Simone and appreciate her in detail!

The Nina Simone Foundation is a non-profit organization established by her daughter, Simone Kelly, for the preservation and celebration of the music, socio-political contributions and overall legacy of the late Dr. Nina Simone. The Nina Simone Foundation is also a philanthropic initiative established to raise money in support of the three, most personal and life-long pursuits of Dr. Nina Simone, which are Cancer research and awareness in underserved communities, music education restoration in the public schools and child abuse prevention.

Dr. Nina Simone was one of those controversial figures American pop music, with the notable exception that she started her controversy earlier in the 1960s than, Bob Dylan. To see this African-American woman get angry about the racial situation in her country, right there on stage, was a shock to people who'd come to hear her sing "I Loves You, Porgy." Not that she cared; she figured that it was the artist's job to deliver the truth, and if the truth hurt, so be it. Of course, events wound up proving her right, but she never stopped being prickly about one thing or another. It was just part of who she was, and part of why her music has endured!

A Generational of True Legacy! Overall one of the chief goals of the NSF is to make a powerful aesthetic nina_daughter.jpgstatement on behalf of the Estate of Nina Simone, while creating a unique yet cultural experience for the public.  Join us as we celebrate the life of Dr. Nina Simone!  This black-tie gala will feature testimonies from those who knew her; song-inspired choreographed dance and a silent auction to raise money for the Dr. Nina Simone Foundation. Dr. Simone’s daughter: Lisa “Simone” Kelly will headline a musical tribute with some of her mother’s most notable songs. A brilliant songstress and Broadway performer in her own right she will also feature original music from her sophomore album project.  For more info on Mrs. Lisa Kelley, please click here

Please stay tunned for more info on on this extravagant event...this will surely be one that you don't want to miss!!
